Quiet Rumbling

I guess I should start small. Hmmm. OK. I think I owe you something for getting me back here. Maybe some kind of advice. Something you might put to use. Got it.
What To Do When You Realize John Mayer Is a Real Musician

I'm not talking about what to do when you realize that you can't get away from his overplayed crappy hits or about what to do when want to sing along. I'm talking about what to do when you hear a song that makes you loose track of whatever you were doing. About what to do when you get lost in a blues guitar solo or a lyric that you never gave a second thought but just rubbed you the right way. And you just got off on it. And maybe it all the sudden made you feel like you were naughty and cheated.

Don't Panic. I said don't panic! You probably just caught some really great music. Maybe you caught him live on the Any Given Thursday DVD or you saw him at the Crossroads Guitar festival with the likes of Stevie Ray Vaughn and B.B. King and Eric Clapton. Maybe You saw him when he was invited to jam with Buddy Guy & Double Trouble or on VH1 with Paul Simon. It could of been when you heard he cut some tracks with Kanye West (maybe the only guy who's making solid rap albums) or it could be a cover of Stevie Ray Vaughn or Hendrix that he just breathed a whole new life. Maybe he was covering a Marvin Gaye song. And you think to yourself, "are there two John Mayer's out there? This can't be the toolbag that sings that 'Daughter's' song, can it?" And maybe you go to the Apple Music Store and Pick up the new AS/IS compilation.

So what do you do? First, turn off the radio. Cause if you have to listen to Daughters sandwiched between some ghetto rap and top 100 rock songs you're just not gonna get it. You're not. Then go pirate whatever live recording you can. Then watch "John Mayer Has a TV Show" on VH1 on Dec 9th. Sometimes you gotta pick someone up on your shoulders and show the world how great they are. I did it before all you knew who he was. I'm doing it now, and I'll still be doing in 20 years when he's getting inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
